Your guide to the perfect burn

01
✂️

Trim the wick

Before every single burn, trim your wick to ¼ inch (about 6mm). This prevents mushrooming, excess soot, and an overly large flame.

💡 Use a wick trimmer or small scissors. Never burn with a wick longer than ½ inch.
02
🕯️

The first burn

The very first time you light your candle, let it burn until the entire top layer of wax melts to the edges of the jar — this takes 2 to 3 hours.

💡 Skipping this creates a “memory ring” causing tunneling on all future burns.
03
⏱️

Burn time limit

Never burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. After 4 hours, let it cool completely for at least 2 hours before relighting.

💡 Extended burns overheat the jar and can cause the wick to move or the glass to crack.
04
🌬️

Extinguish safely

Use a candle snuffer or gently dip the wick into the melted wax using a wick dipper. Never blow out your candle — it causes smoke and soot.

💡 Dipping the wick also re-coats it in wax, making it easier to light next time.
05
📍

Placement matters

Keep your candle on a flat, heat-resistant surface away from drafts, vents, open windows, and fans. Moving air causes uneven burns.

💡 Keep away from flammable materials and always within sight while burning.
06
♻️

Reuse your jar

When ½ inch of wax remains, stop burning. Pour boiling water into the jar to loosen remaining wax, wipe clean, and reuse your beautiful vessel.

💡 Use as a planter, storage, or drinkware. Our jars are designed to be kept forever.

Frequently asked questions

Tunneling happens when a candle isn’t burned long enough on the first use. The wax develops a “memory” and only melts in the centre. Always burn until the full top layer melts to the edges on the very first burn to prevent this.
Black soot is usually caused by a wick that’s too long. Always trim to ¼ inch before lighting. Burning in a drafty area can also cause uneven burning and soot. If soot appears, wipe the inside of the jar with a damp cloth once cooled.
Not at all! White spots or “frosting” is a natural characteristic of soy wax. It’s a sign that your candle is made with real, natural soy — not synthetic paraffin. It doesn’t affect the scent or burn quality in any way.
Once ½ inch of wax remains, stop burning. Pour boiling water into the jar — the wax will float to the top as it cools. Remove the solidified wax disc, pour out the water, and wash the jar with warm soapy water. It’s ready to reuse!
Our candles are made with phthalate-free fragrance oils and natural soy wax with no toxic chemicals. However, some essential oils can be sensitive for animals — especially cats. We recommend burning in a ventilated room and keeping pets away from the direct scent source. When in doubt, consult your vet.
